Wordskills Belarus
In January 2014 the Republic of Belarus officially joined WorldSkills International and became the 68th country participating in this international movement. In order to increase the credibility of vocational education, attract young people to the industrial sector of the economy, improve workforce training quality within the modernization of economic sectors, WorldSkills International has been holding the largest professional skills competitions for 60 years, in which young skilled workers, university students, students of lyceums and colleges from all over the world take part. The Republican Institute for Vocational Education is the official representative of the Republic of Belarus in the International Association. Every two years since joining WorldSkills International, the institute, with the support of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education, holds republican competitions among young professionals under the age of 22.
The Republican competition of vocational skills unites on its site participants and experts from all regions of the country. More than thirty competitive skills have become part of the competition schedule in such areas as: Construction Technologies; Information and Communication Technologies; Creative Professions and Fashion; Manufacturing and Engineering Technologies; Transport and Logistics; Social and Personal Services.
More than a hundred leading enterprises and organizations of the country supported the development of the WorldSkills movement in the Republic of Belarus, becoming partners of the republican competition, providing modern equipment and materials for completing competition tasks, as well as participating in competitor assessment and training.
National team members are chosen from the winners and prize-winners of the competitions. After intensive training they represent the country in WorldSkills International competitions.
The Republic of Belarus made its debut in 2015 in the international arena at the 43rd WorldSkills San Paulo Championship in Brazil. As a result, the team of Belarus won 2 ”Medals of Excellence” for the highest performance. WorldSkills International President C. Bartley highly appreciated the skills of the Belarusian team, which took part in the world championship for the first time.
Over the following years, the national team wıth a new set of members took part in the WorldSkills championships held in the Russian Federation, the Republic of China, the United Arab Emirates, Finland, Germany, as well as in major competitions in the history of movement – the 45th WorldSkills Kazan Championship in 2019.
The WorldSkills movement in the Republic of Belarus is getting developed and gains popularity. Participation in competitions motivates young people to choose the professions that are in highest demand, as well as to develop their careers. It gives educational institutions an excellent opportunity to establish partnerships with the enterprises and organizations that create demand for personnel, to gain access to advanced technologies, to get experience in synchronizing professional and educational standards in order to train modern specialists effectively.
